Country House Veterans Social
Every Friday the Squadron sponsors a Veterans Social at the Country House ALC. Ususally we sit and talk and discuss their military careers as well as current events. Often we'll make a special field trip, like to the Movable Wall at Putnam County Veterans Park or Jeep rides around the property in our member's WWII Jeep.
Jeep rides
October 19, I brought my 1942 Jeep over and took those Vets who wanted it, for a Jeep ride around the property. They LOVED it! I have a list: WWII Jeep project, $4,200.00, New Firestone NDT Tires and tubes, 555.25, New brakelines, hoses, cylinders, 304.86, etc. The SMILE on a Veterans face when I take them for a ride! PRICELESS!
On Friday November 9th we held a wreath ceremony for all the veterans at the Country House in Yorktown Heights. The Sons has the honor to host a social event every Friday at 10am to sit and talk with the veterans to see how there week was. I encourage all communities to reach out to your veterans and thank them for there service. The Squadron and Commander James Calbo thanks Paul R. Martin III, Ed Lachterman, and Patrick McDonough(Post 1009) for being at the event. God bless all our Veterans.
On Oct 5, 2018 Squadron #1009 had the pleasure of escorting the Veterans from the Country House to Putnam County Memorial Park to see the Traveling Vietnam Memorial wall. It was a great day and great weather we had. It was a somber moment for all to embrace and to remember and honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
